The hook. Start with a short paragraph that grabs the reader's attention and compels further reading. Pique the reader's curiosity and engage the reader's emotion. In just a few lines let readers know and feel that your news affects them personally.
The facts. Then provide the journalistic necessities: who, what, when, where, why, and how. Provide enough information so that readers who quit reading early get the essential facts and not mislead.
The details. Include a few paragraphs, supported by pictures and other media as appropriate, to satisfy the reader's curiosity and to prompt the reader to think or act the way you want.
The twist. End with a short, paragraph that subtlely but clearly tells the reader what to do ("You can express your opinions at a hearing to be held ...") or to think ("With development of the ZipGump 4000, ZipCorp takes the lead in fuel-cell technology."
